JOHN ROBERT HRENO BScFor1934-2020With sadness the family announces the passing of John Robert Hreno on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, at Winnipeg, MB, aged 86.Raised in Middlebro, John spent many years working in Forestry in Southeastern Manitoba. After graduating in 1957 from Maritime Forest Ranger School in Fredericton, NB where he met Carole, he was stationed at Marchand Ranger Station and later Hadashville. His best friend and fellow Conservation Officer, Walter Trowsdale, was stationed at Pineland Nursery at that time and there was always a lot of joking, tall stories and laughter when the two of them got together. Our families were close and visited often. Car trips to Texas and The Maritimes were highlights. Sadly Walter passed away in 2008 and Johnny missed him all his life. He recalled many other friends from those days, especially the Kozaks and Kupiaks.Johnny went back to school at the University of New Brunswick, graduating from Forestry with Honours in 1970. He worked for the City of Winnipeg for 20 rewarding years, retiring as Director of Parks & Recreation. He served on the boards of Tree Canada and the Manitoba Forestry Association and other conservation organizations.John was a man of good nature and integrity, loving, kind and a true gentleman. He was a devoted family man who loved to fill his cottage at Moose Lake with family, friends and fun.John leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing his wife of 62 years, Carole; children, Joan Hreno (Loren Keleher), Trent Hreno (Carrie Solmundson), Travis Hreno (Tine Hreno); grandchildren, Spencer and Myles Keleher, Stefan Hreno; brother, Walter Hreno (Diane); many nieces, nephews and relations.John was predeceased by his parents Barbara and Michael Hreno, brother Mike, sister Mary and husband Gordon Plovie.Due to COVID-19 the funeral at St Paul’s Anglican Church Fort Garry on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. is restricted to family.
