WILLIAM LEONARD (WILLIE) FALK

Nov. 4, 1943-Apr. 9, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of William Leonard (Willie) Falk of Niverville, MB on Thursday, Apr. 9, 2020 at the St Boniface Cardiac Care unit, Winnipeg, MB.

He will be deeply missed by his siblings and their families: Viola (David), daughter Caroline (Jake); Bernie (Lillian), daughter Angeline and sons Chadwin and Timothy; Erwin (Diane) with daughters Bonnie and Heidi, Dennis (Brenda) and their families; sister-in-law Lydia, with Sheldon (Cynthia), Lorraine (Harv), Jason (Chantelle), Kevin (Zoe) and their families.

He was predeceased by his parents Ben and Elsie Falk and older brother Alvin.

Willie was born on Nov. 4, 1943 at the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg and has lived in the Niverville area all his life. Our family lived on a mixed farm along the Crown Valley Rd. He attended the Aaran School up to grade 8, then to New Bothwell and finally to Niverville Collegiate. He also attended one year at Winkler Bible School. He sang in the Niverville, MB., Church Men’s Choir for many years.

He accepted Christ as his personal Saviour as a young teenager and was later baptized and accepted into the Niverville M.B. Church. Years later he attended services at Calvary Temple and Grant Memorial churches.

Willie loved farming, that is every area except hog farming! He enjoyed going to farm shows to check out the newest and latest equipment that would make farming more efficient and convenient. He stayed up to date on all the latest John Deere equipment even after he officially retired in 2010. Until the beet factory closed its doors in 1997, it was his job to seed the beets, cultivate them and in fall drive the harvester, all with great precision and accuracy.

Another great interest of his was CARS, especially sports cars in later years.

He very much enjoyed taking winter vacations - first with his single friends, then on his own and in the past years with his sister Viola (David) and/or brother Erwin (Diane). Favourite places were any place “warm and green” like Hawaii, Florida, Arizona, Mexico and California, home of his youngest brother, Dennis.

Life became a “new normal” for our brother after he suffered a massive stroke in early May of 1997. After rehabilitating in Winnipeg and Steinbach, he spent six weeks at an integrative medical center in the States, which helped greatly in restoring him to better health. Another health challenge that became more acute was his hearing, but with hearing aids he managed quite well.

After retirement he continued his love of farming on a much smaller scale, cutting his big lawn, gardening, and helping others with small jobs. Also it should be noted that he loved home cooked meals.

Willie had a very loving and caring heart and was a very generous man.

We, siblings, nieces, and nephews, will really miss our brother and “Uncle Willie”.

As a family we are hopeful that a celebration of life can be held at a later date. There will be a viewing at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 1-3 p.m.

Due to the present distancing regulations, please call the family to arrange a time during this time frame. The burial will take place after this at the Hespeler Cemetery, south of Niverville. There will be a short graveside devotional with a loudspeaker which can be accessed from attendees staying in their cars.

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Bethesda Hospital ER trauma unit, STARS ambulance and the St Boniface Cardiac Care unit for their outstanding, efficient and caring attention to Willie.

Donations in Willie’s memory may be made to Compassion Canada (releasing children from poverty - compassion in Jesus’ name).
