JOHN HECKERT REMPEL
May 6, 1933-Dec. 13, 2019
John Heckert Rempel, 86, of Steinbach, MB, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB, following a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Monica, and their children, Elenore (Art), Kenneth (Kelly), Allan (Chatelle) and Norman, as well as his grandchildren, Tristan, Tianna, Zara and Silas, and his sisters, Anne Siminuk and Frieda Falk.
John was predeceased by his parents Otto and Julianna Rempel and 13 siblings.
John was born and raised in Hochstadt, near Kleefeld, MB, where he grew up on the dairy farm he would eventually own and operate. He married Monica on June 11, 1966, and the couple went on to have four children. He loved country life; in 1990 he and Monica moved to a smaller acreage near Kleefeld where John still cared for a large garden and nurtured a special passion for growing sweet corn.
John loved his community; for many years he was a fixture at the Kleefeld Honey Festival, where he lent his expertise to running the chicken barbecue. He loved to visit with friends and neighbours from near and far. John was also very proud to have been a life-long member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church.
A private viewing will take place Thursday, Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
The funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 20 with a viewing beginning at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Steinbach, MB.
In lieu of flowers, friends and family may make donations in memory of John H. Rempel to the Bethesda Foundation (bethesdafoundation.ca/get-involved).
