NORMAN PETERS
Sept. 17, 1937 – Sept. 24, 2019
It is with a sad heart we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB, on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019.
Norm was born in Steinbach and lived there all his life. He grew up on his parents’ potato farm. In his adult years he worked at Loewen Body Shop for over 40 years as their radiator specialist and helped with the body work prep when required. He met many people and made many friends during these years.
He bought his first boat when he was still single and upgraded over the years until he purchased his last fishing boat in 1995, which he still enjoyed. Fishing was always his favourite summer activity. In winter hockey was his game and he held season tickets to the Senior Huskies throughout the 80’s and 90’s and attended many other games after that. Football and curling were two other games he enjoyed watching.
He met the love of his life, Shirl Tarasenco, in 1963. They married on Sept. 25, 1965. They joined the Steinbach United Church in 1965, where he sang in the church choir for nearly 35 years. He so enjoyed singing that after he retired, he joined the 55 Plus choir.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry H. and Anna D. Peters, his siblings Rose (Pete), Benno (Helen), Evelyn (Harry) and Ellen (John).
He is survived by his loving wife Shirl, his children Jason (Shannon), Michele (Jeff), granddaughter Samantha and great-grandson Jayden, his siblings Violet, Leonard, and Shirley (John).
We want to thank the wonderful staff at the Bethesda Hospital, the paramedics and Dr Curtis Krahn who cared for Norm for many years.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a lunch to follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Bethesda Foundation.
