FAY WALKER

Nov. 30, 1939-Aug. 22, 2019

Sometimes it’s hard to say good-bye to someone we love. We did not want to say good-bye to Fay this soon, however cancer took over and she left us Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019 at Riverview Health Centre with her son Curtis by her side.

Fay was predeceased by her parents, her sister Gloria-Jean, her brother-in-law Ron, and Speed, the love of her life.

Fay was born Nov. 30, 1939 to Nea and Larus Hvanndal in Piney, MB. She was the second of four daughters. Fay had great memories of life on the farm with sisters Donna and Enid. She spoke fondly of the freedom she enjoyed throughout her childhood, playing on a swing, in their tree house and roaming the fields.

Her love of music began early watching her dad play violin and the guitar and listening to the Grand Ole Opry on a battery powered radio. Fay and her sister Enid leaned to play guitar and sing together to the old country songs.

Fay left the farm to work in Winnipeg. A few years later she met and married Terry McLachlan and they had two children before going their separate ways.

It was Fay’s love of music that drew her to a local entertainer named Speed Walker. They were so in tune with each other musically, it was a joy to watch them together. Years later they married. Between them they had six children: Fay’s – Landis and Curt (Michelle); Speed’s – Kevin, Kerry (Elaine), Kelly (Rhonda) and Cheryl (TJ).

Fay was a prolific song writer. She had 57 songs recorded by various artists. Her songs have been heard all over the U.S., Canada, France, Germany, Sweden and Australia. Fay never stopped writing.

After Speed retired they enjoyed going on road trips all over Canada and the U.S. One of their favorite pastimes was attending yearly Country Music weeks all across Canada.

Through the years the family grew to include many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fay was a special aunt to niece Leslie (Doug) and will be missed by best friend Judy and musical daughters Cindi and Laurie.

A celebration of Fay’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd, Winnipeg.

A further celebration of Fay’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Piney Hall, Piney, MB. Fay will join the love of her life, Speed, in the Piney Cemetery.

Fay will be remembered as the gentle, humble lady that she was and will be forever missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Fay to Cancer Care Manitoba.

The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Cancer Care, Riverview Health Centre and Palliative Manitoba for their compassionate care throughout Fay’s journey.

Family and friends may sign a book of condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.
