JOHN HIEBERT

Apr. 22, 1930-Aug. 20, 2019

John Hiebert, 89, of Winkler, MB, passed away peacefully following an 11-month illness due to cancer at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Winkler, MB, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019.

He is survived by his wife Mary, four sisters, two brothers and their families.

He was predeceased by two brothers.

John was born on Apr. 22, 1930 in Hanover Municipality, MB. He grew up in New Bothwell and met his future bride, Mary Doerksen. They were married on Sept. 22, 1956 in the CMC in Niverville, MB. They would have been married 63 years on Sept. 22, 2019.

After they were married, he had a variety of jobs including BA Niverville repair shop, construction - transit – taxi, etc. He started as a porter on CN/VIA rails in 1956 and worked his way up to a full-time chef until retirement in 1986.

His enjoyments included travelling, where they went to Russia in 1984. Also, computers, stock markets and spending time harvesting on the in-laws’ farm.

John also loved spending time cooking at the C.S.S.M. and Circle Square Ranch summer camps.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr Woelk, Dr Brett and the rest of the staff at Boundary Trails Health Centre, Pastor Jake Krahn, Pastor Davey Martens and to the church family for the care and compassion they have shown to John and Mary during this time.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The burial took place at Niverville Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville, MB.
