JOCELYN (GHISLAINE) LOEWEN

Jocelyn passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the age of 65 years. She spent the last 13 days of her life in the attentive care of the wonderful and compassionate staff at the Health Sciences Centre Medical Intensive Care Unit, after a series of major seizures.

She is survived by her husband Kelvin, daughter Patricia (Kevin) Schellenberg, son Eric (Tesha) Loewen, son Lucas, grandchildren Ashlyn, Alexandra, Ethan, Everly and Huxley, brothers Ed (Anne), and Dan, and sister Michelle.

Jocelyn was also loved and appreciated by all her nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many lifelong dear friends and her caregivers Heidi, Catherine and Becky who did so much to help make her life as full as possible.

Jocelyn was predeceased by her parents Paul and Joan Savage.

Jocelyn’s career included time as a nurse at Victoria, Concordia and Seven Oaks in Winnipeg, St Paul’s in Vancouver and AMGH in Goderich, ON. She also worked as an educational assistant and volunteered with the IODE and the Adult Day Centre in Goderich.

Jocelyn met her beloved husband in Winnipeg in 1973 and they married in Ottawa in 1975. In recent years, Jocelyn was a member of Christ our Saviour Parish in Steinbach. The Circle of Friends at the Pat Porter Centre will also remember her fondly.

The family is also thankful for the excellent response from the paramedics in the Steinbach Emergency Medical Service, STARS Service for Transport to Winnipeg, and the medical staff in Bethesda Emergency and Health Sciences Centre who did their best through this whole event.

Mass will be held Friday, Aug. 2 at 2 p.m. at Christ Our Saviour Parish, Steinbach, MB, followed by a celebration of Jocelyn’s life beginning at 4 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach. Attendance at either or both events is most welcomed.

After struggling with a variety of symptoms for many years, Jocelyn was finally diagnosed with mitochondrial disease at age 60. Mitochondrial disease can affect all or any part of the body and the range of symptoms is almost limitless. She was determined to live life to the fullest despite her setbacks.

In lieu of any flowers, the family welcomes donations in Jocelyn’s name to be made to Mito Canada at www.mitocanada.org.
