Mary Nickel, age 91 of Grunthal, formerly Stuartburn, was called to her heavenly home on April 22nd at the Bethesda Regional Health Center. She is survived by 2 daughters Anne Braun (Menno), Bertha Voth (Cornie), 5 sons John (Mary Anne), Bill (Hilda), Henry (Corinne), Jake (Lena), Ben (Susan) one son-in-law Edward, 30 grandchildren and spouses, 52 great-grandchildren, 1 great-greatgrandchild, 2 sisters and 3 brothers. She was pre-deceased by her husband, George and 3 daughters Nettie (in infancy), Margaret and Sarah.

Mom was born in Rosenfeld, Manitoba on August 11, 1927 to John and Sara Thiessen. She grew up in the Roseau River area and was baptized on the confession of her faith at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. It was in that community where she met and married our Dad on August 4, 1946. Together they farmed for more than 60 years in the Stuartburn area. Mom has always enjoyed serving others through volunteering at Church, MCC, quilting, knitting for the Children’s Hospital and the Christmas shoeboxes program and numerous other ways.

Viewing to be held on Friday, April 26 at 7:00pm with a devotional at 7:30pm at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church, 101 Southwood Street in Grunthal, Manitoba. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2:00pm also at the same location. Interment will be at the Stuartburn Sommerfeld Mennonite Church Cemetery after the service.

Thank you to the Home Care at Greendale Estates, to the staff at Bethesda Hospital and to the many family and friends who came to visit Mom.
