Oct. 12, 1950-Apr. 10, 2019
Marilyn Ruth Plett, aged 68, of Landmark, MB, passed away on Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2019 at her home following a courageous fight against cancer. She was an inspiration to family and friends.
Marilyn is survived by her best friend and husband, Lloyd Plett of Landmark. She also leaves behind her daughter, Merrilee Plett and husband Greg Sawatzky; son, Kristopher Plett with his children Ryan, Amanda and Jessica; and daughter, Meghan Storey and husband Kenton Storey with their children Corin, Quinn and Rhys. Additionally, she is survived by her parents, Arnold and Anne Reimer.
Marilyn had a passion for life! She loved spending time in her kitchen cooking and baking for loved ones and for community events. She enjoyed many road trips with her husband across Canada and the United States. As recently as this fall, they had travelled to two of their favourite places, Peachland, BC and the east coast of Canada. Winter holidays with children and grandchildren to Orlando, FL were highlights over the last 10 years.
Marilyn was an involved community leader. Over the years, she spent time involved in the Landmark Recreation Association, Landmark PTA, trustee and chair of Hanover School Division, and was a founding member of Heartland Community Church. She valued service to community and whenever there was a project that needed envisioning or organizing, she was the one people counted on to get things done. Most recently, Marilyn was heading up a team from Heartland Community Church to develop a daycare in Landmark.
A celebration of life service was held at Heartland Community Church in Landmark, MB on Sunday, Apr. 14 at 5 p.m. All were invited to join the family that evening. Following the service, in honour of Marilyn’s commitment to community, the family invited people to stay for a Jets Playoff Game Whiteout Party! (Marilyn planned a similar party last year for the church and community.)
All friends, family and community members were invited to join the family in the memorial service for Marilyn on Monday, Apr. 15 at 11 a.m. at Prairie Rose EMC in Landmark, MB which was followed by a reception. Marilyn requested a private interment service for family and invited guests prior to the service.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Marilyn may be made to Heartland Community Church with the notation: Marilyn’s Legacy Fund. As a family, we are planning, in partnership with Heartland Community Church, to build a community daycare. All donated monies will go toward that project.
