Dec. 4, 1926-Apr. 3, 2019
Helen Cornelsen, of Steinbach, MB, passed away at the Rest Haven Nursing Home on Wednesday, Apr. 3, 2019 at the age of 92.
She was born on Dec. 4, 1926 to Isaac W. and Mary Cornelsen in Meade, KS. Here she got her education. In 1945, as a teenager, she moved with her parents to Manitoba where her older, married siblings had already moved.
She is survived by Ben’s wife Sibyl, nine nieces and five nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Marie (John), Katherine (Diedrich), Elizabeth (George), Anna (Peter); and her brothers, Pete (Lena) and Ben; three nieces and one nephew.
Her working days were spent at Granny’s, and many years at Rest Haven as a health care aide.
Learning to drive and upgrading her high school in her late 30’s was admirable, however, challenging. Her LPN training was unfortunately cut short by emergency surgery.
Helen very much enjoyed gardening, including her geraniums and other flowers. Some of her good times came from going on bus tours with friends that she made at work. Being a part of the Blumenort Sewing Circle, the Mission Helpers and the 55+ choir were hours well spent.
While she enjoyed her life at Bridgepark Manor, that too was cut short four years ago by a fall resulting in a broken hip/femur. From there she was well taken care of, first at St Pierre Hospital and then at Rest Haven Nursing Home.
The Memorial Service for Helen Cornelsen was held on Monday, Apr. 8 at 11 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Burial took place at the Blumenort EMC Cemetery.
Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Haven Group.
Thank you, Rest Haven staff for loving her and the great care you gave her. —Her family
