ANNE KRAYNYK
Oct. 31, 1923-Feb. 22, 2019
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Kraynyk (nee Dyback), a long-time resident of Vita, MB. She passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 at the Vita Personal Care Home.
She is survived by her three children, Michael (Fay), Christine (Edward), and Peter; two granddaughters, Leah and Kayla Kraynyk and their partners Oz and Mike. Also surviving is her sister, Rose (George) Grunwald, and brother, Peter (Ann) Dyback.
She was predeceased by her husband Mike and daughter Rosalie; parents Peter and Afia; and siblings Harry, John, Paul and Wilma.
Mom was born to Peter and Afia Dyback on the family farm in Sarto, MB on Oct. 31, 1923, the fourth of seven children.
Her early days were spent on the farm assisting her parents, contributing to the daily activities and providing supervision for her younger siblings. She was mentored by her mother in the ways of a farm wife, which she carried on into married life; an excellent cook, proficient gardener, and domestic provider. Prior to marriage, Anne spent time in both Winnipeg and Chicago working as a domestic, remembering these times with fondness.
She married Mike on Oct. 11, 1952 and together they farmed the Kraynyk family farm until retirement to their new home in Vita in 1990. Mom remained in this home after Dad’s passing, later moving to Shady Oaks where she spent 15 years before her move to the Vita PCH.
Church was an important part of her life and alongside her husband she was involved in many activities. Mom was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League, donating her time and skills within the church community.
For the past 30 years, Mom lived with the challenges of diminishing eye sight due to macular degeneration. She maintained independence and vigilance with her day to day functioning; seeking out assistance as needed, until the challenges of aging required a move to the PCH in June of 2016.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 PTH 52W, Steinbach, MB., with interment at Vita North Cemetery, Vita, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom’s memory to the St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church or Southern Health – Sante Sud – in memo line Dr. L. Toth Memorial Garden (Vita and District Health Center).
The family extends its heart felt gratitude to all the care team staff members at the Vita Personal Care Home for their compassion, care, and guidance in Mom’s journey.
