Suddenly, on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, Lorenz Borkowsky passed away at home at the age of 83.
Lorenz was predeceased by his mother Ottilie Pachal (1963), father Johan (1971), sister Emily Schultz (1997), brother Fred (2002), sister Erna Crowe (2004), brother Bill (2005), sister Ida Grienke (2011), and sister Frieda Krentz (2015).
Lorenz will be dearly missed by his loving wife Bernice of 59 years, daughter Kimberly Funk (Alan), son Boyd (Marlys) and grandchildren and great-granddaughter Crystal Warner (Stephen), Amy Borkowsky, Tiffany Funk (Tori), and Aryelle Sylvester (Tyler).
Lorenz was born on June 8, 1935 in the Bristol area in Hanover Municipality. At the age of 22, he went to work in Winnipeg for Maple Leaf Flour Mills, as well as helping on the farm. He married Bernice Buss on June 6, 1959. They took over the family homestead, and milk for 37 years. While taking care of the homestead, Lorenz was also a councillor in the Rural Municipality of Hanover for Ward 4 from 1969-1983, and 1998-2006. He was blessed to die at home, where he lived his whole life.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 11 a.m. at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach, MB with interment at St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Friedensfeld, MB. Viewing was held at the church one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lorenz may be made to the St Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 465 Henry St, Steinbach, MB, R5G 0H1.
