After a long battle with cancer, Derek Gross passed away at the age of 58 years on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2019 at the Portage Hospital surrounded by friends and family.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Karen Gross, along with his daughters, Kalene Neudorf and husband Jed, Megan Gross and boyfriend David Kanne. He also leaves behind his parents, Ben and Arliss Gross, and siblings, Daryl Gross and wife Jan, Jeanne Holmberg and husband Jim, Janice Bezler and husband Kevin. Derek was predeceased by his cherished puppy Brandi.
Derek was born Mar. 24, 1960 in Bow Island, AB, and enjoyed 30 years of marriage. He loved spending time with brothers and friends on the golf course, working on his Frankenstein truck or helping anyone in need. We will always remember his joyful smile, his jokes, and how much he loved using his countless skills to help others. He was a jack of all trades because he could never pick just one to do. He will be sorely missed by his house church, by Portage Transport where he worked as a truck driver, and by Prairie Alliance Church where he served as a sound technician.
A viewing and visitation will take place at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Jan. 12 from 7-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. at Prairie Alliance Church, 2375 Saskatchewan Ave W, Portage la Prairie, MB. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Derek’s memory to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave E, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 0K8.
A tree will be planted in memory and cared for by McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, 204-857-4021, www.mckenziesportagefuneralchapel.com.
