HELENA CHUBEY (nee Berg)
\March 19, 1927 – June 23, 2018

Helena passed away peacefully on June 23, 2018 at Eastview Place in Altona, MB.

Helena is survived by her children Roman (Donna) Chubey, Linda (Gary) Lukawesky, and Larry (Shauneen) Chubey, as well as six grandchildren Toni (Wayne), Jackie (Joey), Christie (Kyle), Mark, Carlee (Amael), Devyn; seven greatgrandchildren Kyle, Skylar, Declan, Cole, Christina, Aubree, Logan. Also her brothers Bill (Kathy) Berg, Ed (Maureen) Berg, and Ben Berg and her sisters Henrietta (Ron) Irwin and Anne Backman. And many nieces and nephews.

Helena was predeceased by her husband Jack Chubey, ex-husband George Jacobson, son James Chubey, and granddaughter Kimberly Chubey.

Mom (Baba) was born and raised on a farm where her lifelong love for the country began. She married a farmer and she often talked about her best years being out on the farm. She loved to cook and would often say “That’s the best I’ve ever made”, and whatever she was making was always awesome. She was a hard worker and a good provider for her family. She loved knitting and crocheting and frequently gave away blankets, scarves, cloths, and slippers. Arthritis took away her ability to knit as she aged but she never quit cooking/baking. She was diagnosed with cancer last year and her health slowly deteriorated from then on, but her witty attitude and zest for life remained constant to the end.

We would like to thank the hospital and Eastview Place staff in Altona for their compassionate care for Mom right to the end. And a special thank you to Carlee for all she did for Baba during her stay at Eastview Place.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to The Arthritis Foundation or Altona Palliative Care.
