PIETER BASSA
Surrounded by family, Pieter Bassa, of La Broquerie, MB, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB.
He is survived by his wife Klazina of 52 years, daughter Klara (Theo), sons Kees and Jan (Tracy), grandchildren Amber, Derrick, Nicholas, Joshua and Melissa.
Born Oct. 2, 1942 in Lexmond, the Netherlands, Pieter’s life began and ended with farming in his blood. His love for dairy farming was always constant in his life, moving him from the Netherlands to La Broquerie in 1991. As much as he loved farming, Pieter hated Manitoba winters, which was enough to send him looking for another passion; this he found in travelling with Klazina. It was in Texas that Pieter traded his coveralls for a shuffleboard stick and deck of cards. Many a happy hour was spent making friends and being thankful he no longer had to own a shovel.
Difficult times are made better by the support of friends and family. We have been blessed to have had many kind words and thoughts sent our way. Thank you for your encouragement.
A celebration of his life will be held at CD Trees in Steinbach, MB on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served while we share memories and a toast in honour of Pieter.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to CancerCare Manitoba.
