May 26, 1921 – January 16, 2018
Agnes Rempel Ketler (May 26, 1921 – January 16, 2018), 96, of Steinbach Manitoba passed away Tuesday morning January 16, 2018 at the Niverville PCH. She was predeceased by her parents, Heinrich and Katarina Ketler, and her three brothers and one sister; Bill, Henry, Jake, and Melinda. She is survived by one sister in law, Doris Ketler, and thirteen nieces and nephews and their families.
She will be remembered as one of Steinbach’s first hairdressers. Aunt Agnes loved to garden, travel, dig up history, and record genealogy. She was an expert on all things Royal, following the European Royal families right up to the present. Agnes volunteered at the Mennonite Heritage Museum and local MCC store. She was a member of the congregation at the Steinbach Mennonite Church.
Aunt Agnes was a fiercely independent woman, who believed strongly in the power of education; and equality and rights for women and children.
Upon her request, her body has been donated to the University of Manitoba for research. A small gathering will take place at the home of her niece, Joanell Ketler Smith, on Saturday the 20th of January at 2:00 pm. Family, friends, and acquaintances are welcome to stop in.
