KARIN CHARLOTTE SCHOENBACH

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Karin Charlotte Schoenbach of Sprague, MB, age 71, on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017.

“Omi”, as she was affectionately known to everyone, is survived by her husband of 49 years, Alfred Schoenbach; her son, Holger (Alana) Schoenbach; and her daughter, Tina (Rob) Schoenbach. She will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Nikita (Danny) and Marko (Cassy), and Oslo, as well as her great-grandchildren Rylan and Weston. She also leaves behind cherished family members and friends in Germany.

Omi was born on Aug. 14, 1946 and grew up in Germany. In 1988, she immigrated to Canada with Alfred and their two children, settling at the family farm in Sprague, MB. Omi was a dedicated farm wife and mother, and her greatest pride came from looking after her family.

She was an accomplished cook and baker and she loved to host gatherings for family and friends. Her door was always open to friends and neighbours alike for coffee and cake, and her coffee pot was always on.

She was admired by many for her fierce determination in battling rheumatoid arthritis and its crippling effects for most of her life. She demonstrated great strength and grit and refused to be defined by her illness.

The family would like to express their appreciation for all the help, support and kind gestures by close neighbours and members of the community.

A private celebration of Omi’s life will take place in the future.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Karin’s name to a charity of one’s choosing.
