BARBARA PLETT
November 19, 1949 - October 26, 2017

Barbara Ann Plett (nee Reimer), of Landmark, Manitoba, passed away peacefully in her home, on October 26, 2017.

Barb was born on November 19, 1949 to Margaret and Peter X Reimer. She was their fourth daughter and after her followed two sons.

Barb graduated from Landmark Collegiate Institute and spent the next few years working, travelling to Europe and attending Grace Bible Institute in Nebraska and Steinbach Bible College in Manitoba.

When one of Barb’s older sisters got married, Barb was a bridesmaid. A certain Ron Plett was also in the wedding party, as it was his brother marrying Barb’s sister. Ron says that when he saw Barb at the wedding, he knew in his heart that she was the woman he wanted to marry.

Barb and Ron were married on March 9, 1974. Three years later their first child, Fiona, was born, followed by Ivan, two years later. Janice followed four years after that, and at the end of that year Barb and Ron also opened their hearts, home and family to another son, Danny.

Barb and Ron’s first home was an apartment in Winnipeg. Ron, however, knew deep down he was a farmer, and they shortly moved back to Landmark to take over the family farm. Barb was an amazing support to Ron, particularly during harvest, even learning to combine!

Barb had many interests, hobbies and gifts, a number of which were apparent from childhood. Barb’s interest in music was strong from a young age as she learned to play piano, guitar, and the omni harp. She loved to sing, and sang in choirs and as a soloist alike. Barb was nearly always part of the church choir, and her confident alto voice blessed many patients at St. Boniface hospital over the 20+ years she volunteered there.

Barb was creative in many ways. She enjoyed painting, and was a talented seamstress, even sewing her own wedding dress. In later years, she took up pottery, and was well known for her thumbprint mugs, as well as her yearly open house, Barb’s Country Christmas. Her creativity extended to her yard, where she planted beautiful flower and vegetable gardens alike, loving working in God’s creation.

The greatest love of Barb’s life however was Jesus. She consistently strived to use all of her gifts, talents and joys to the glory of God and the blessing of others and we know her beautiful voice is now part of the heavenly choir singing glory to God forever.

Barb is survived by her five siblings, her husband, Ron Plett, and their children: Danny Plett, Fiona Thiessen (Steve), Ivan Plett (Sherry), Janice Barrate (Lance), thirteen grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

The viewing service was held on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service was held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Prairie Rose Evangelical Mennonite Church, Landmark, MB, with viewing prior to the service. The burial will follow at the church cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Barbara may be made to Equip Canada.
