CATHERINE ESTHER ELYK
(nee Stewart)
December 23, 1946 - August 22, 2017
Catherine Esther Elyk (nee Stewart), age 70, of Menisino, MB, formally of Wellington, NS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, with her family at her side.
She is survived by: her loving husband of 53 years, John, her soul mate and best friend; her daughter Shawny (Vic) Prevost; her son John; four sisters: Jean (Neil) Knutson, Sharon Stewart, Marguerite Wheeler and Mary Ellen (Leo) Doucet; and her brothers: James, Robert, Gilles, and Edward.
She was predeceased by her parents Genevieve and Donald Stewart; sisters: Natalie and Donna; brothers: Donald and Angus and her granddaughter Rosemary.
Family was very important to Catherine. She was the third born in a family of 13 children. She was most excited and proud of her grandchildren: Joshua, Bridgette, Jacob Elyk; Rosemary Elyk; and Jamie Rose, Isabelle, Bobby Jo and Levi Prevost.
Catherine enjoyed sewing and was often found at the local craft sales. She cherished spending time with her family and cooking for everyone. She was well known to everybody, thanks to her homemade bread.
Prayers will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 6 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional to follow at 7 p.m. Viewing will also be at the church prior to the service.
Mass of Resurrection will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption, South Junction, MB, with interment to follow at the parish cemetery.
If friends so wish, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Catherine may be made to CancerCare MB Foundation.
Special thanks to Dr. Porath, Dr. Toews, Dr. Maksumiuk, and Dr. Bashir; the nurses in the chemo unit and the nurses on first floor and to the family and friends who gave us their love and support.
Also, a very special thanks to Dawn and Clifford Elyk for their love and support.
