Marge Fournier, age 78, of La Broquerie, passed away peacefully following a lengthy illness on Monday, June 26, 2017 at Bethesda Regional Health Centre.
She is survived by: her loving husband of 58 years, Bernard; their three sons: Rénald, Alain (Jacqueline) and Gilles. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Denise Connelly, brothers and sisters: Theresa, Jean (Bill), Cecile, Irene, James (Gisele), May, Brian (Connie), Charlie (Annette), Raymond (Diane), and Aggie; in-laws: Denise Boisjoli, Clemence Dufault, Eveline Carrière, Rose-Aimee Morier (Vincent), Florence Michaud (Clement), Anita Fournier, Liliane Tremblay (Lucien), and Oscar Fournier (Fran).
She was predeceased by her parents Patrick and Aurise Connelly, brothers: Robert and Bing, sisters: Hilda and Helene Robert, in-laws: Roméo Gauthier, Alphonse Perron, Gilles Robert, Leo Boisjoli, André Dufault, Joe Fournier, Paul-Emile Carrière, Gilbert Fournier and a few nephews and nieces.
Mom was born in St. Laurent on July 8, 1938. She grew up in St. Laurent and came to La Broquerie to finish school in 1954. In church, one Sunday, she caught the eye of a young man (our dad). After a few years of dating, they were married on July 4, 1959.
Mom moved to the farm dad had been farming for six years. Together, side by side, they worked very hard making the farm grow. They were blessed with three sons: Rénald, Alain (Jacqueline) and Gilles. Mom was a great cook. She didn’t just prepare a meal, it was a feast. Mom loved: working outside in her garden, her flower beds and crafting all kinds of lawn decorations. When their sons started working on the farm, mom, not one to sit back, started to babysit. Over some 25 years she babysat twenty children. They would call her Mémère Marge.
Mom was a devoted Christian. Throughout the difficulties in life, her faith did not waver. She passed her strong faith to her three sons. Mom would always put her family first. She was a kind, unselfish, joyful…person.
Three years ago, mom was diagnosed with dementia. With the help of his three sons and daughter-in-law, dad cared for mom at home. We lived some special moments with mom these last few years. Though mom was getting more and more confused, she would still recognize us.
On April 15, 2017, she was admitted to the hospital due to complications from her diabetes. A cure wasn’t meant to be, so God called her home on the dawn of the 26th of June, while the birds were starting to sing. We know God had a special place ready for her. One day we’ll all be together again, sharing, laughing and enjoying a new life in the arms of God.
Special thanks to Dr. Duerksen and nursing staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. Also, special thanks to James and Gisele Connelly, Jean Gauthier and Fran Fournier for their special care.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Margaret will be held on Friday, June 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Joachim Roman Catholic Parish, La Broquerie, MB, with a viewing prior to the service. The interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association – Manitoba Division.
