FRIEDA WALLMAN (nee REMPEL)
October 31, 1925 - June 16, 2017

Frieda Wallman (nee Rempel) was born to Wilhelm and Anna Rempel on Oct. 31, 1925, in the small village of Tiegenhagen in Ukraine. When she was three weeks old, they left for Canada. They arrived on New Year’s Eve in Graysville, MB. Later they moved to Domain, where she grew up. Her education only went to the end of Grade 9, much to her disappointment, and she was forced to stay home to work on the farm.

Frieda was baptized, upon confession of faith, on June 9, 1946 by Rev. Wilhelm Enns in Springstein Mennonite Church. On Aug. 12, 1950, she married Jake Wallman. They lived a short while in Brunkild and eventually moved to Morris for five years. Their last move was to Steinbach in 1969, where Mom enjoyed working for the M.C.C. Thrift Shop for 32 years. When Dad became ill, they both had to stop volunteering there.

Mom had an unending love of gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and all kinds of handiwork. She was never without some kind of work or project in her hands. Nothing gave her more joy than to set a beautiful table and have company over. Like her mother, she treated all living things with kindness.

Her health took a sudden turn three years ago, and she became hospitalized in Steinbach. Mom was sent to the Morris Hospital, as there was no bed for her in Steinbach. She waited in Morris for almost one year, then was moved to Bethesda Place Personal Care Home in Steinbach, where she passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, June 16, 2017 with family by her side. She received extraordinary, loving care from the staff at both Morris Hospital and Bethesda Place.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Jake and one daughter, Darlene, in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her daughter June, son Eldon and wife Melinda (Caleb, Bayden).

The funeral service will be held Friday, June 23 at 2 p.m. at Steinbach Mennonite Church, 345 Loewen Blvd, Steinbach, MB. The interment will follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.

If friends desire, donations in memory of Frieda may be made to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

Arrangements by Birchwood Funeral Chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030.
