MARY SOPIWNYK
November 25-1928 – June 8, 2017
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Sopiwnyk on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Vita Personal Care Home, at the age of 88.
Mary is survived by her children Johnny (Joanne), MaryAnne (Jerald); son-in-law Mark; grandchildren Teresa (Chris) and Jared; great-grandchildren Emerson and Poppy; sisters Olga, Jean and Doreen (Dennis); brother Bill (Anne); and sister-in-law Elsie.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter; daughter Doreen; parents Harry and Nellie; sisters Sophie and Anne; and brothers John and Mike.
Mary will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, generosity and compassion for all. She loved working in her vegetable gardens and enjoyed tending to her many beautiful flower beds. Mary was known for her amazing Ukrainian cooking and delicious baking. She was happiest surrounded by family and enjoyed when there was company, especially visits with her grandchildren.
Over the last few years she faced some health challenges but displayed great strength, perseverance and sense of humour through it all.
Baba you will be so dearly missed!
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Vita PCH for taking great care of Baba!
Prayers will be Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, Caliento, MB. The burial will follow at the Sopiwnyk Parish Cemetery, Caliento, MB. A dinner will follow at Zhoda Hall.
If family and friends so desire, donations in memory of Mary may be made to The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church (Sopiwnyk’s) Cemetery Fund.
