Abe H. Kehler, age 97, of Steinbach, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2017 at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach.
He is survived by his wife Mary and their three daughters; Ruth (Henry), Darlene (Jake), Lorraine (Dennis), one son; Ken (Joanne), one step-daughter; Doreen (Larry), one step-son; Wayne, six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife Dora in 1994, his parents Martin & Helena Kehler, two brothers; Peter and Erdman, two sisters; Nettie and Kathy.
Our Dad was married to Dora Toews in 1950. They farmed in New Bothwell for a number of years before moving to Paraguay in 1971, where he was a grain farmer and owned a bull dozer.
They moved back to Canada in 1985 where he semi-retired. He enjoyed farming while working for Mark Loewen, a grain farmer until the age of 80.
He remarried to Mary Funk on October 12, 1996. They celebrated 20 good years of marriage.
Farming was one of his great joys through-out his life time. Another of his passions was driving School bus, which he did for many years.
He enjoyed watching baseball and hockey to the point of owning and watching three televisions at one time.
Abe H. Kehler was a member of the CMC Church for many years.
Dad was a hard worker, loved to tell stories, and was a great practical joker. Blueberry pies was a favourite of Dad’s and so he spent many hours picking blueberries.
He instilled a great work ethic in us his children.
He deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
