Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT (BOB) JOHN MITCHELL
June 7, 1944 - April 23, 2017
After a valiant fight with cancer, Bob has gone on to his heavenly reward. He is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn (nee Knelson), his children Charlene (fiancé Peter Harbottle) of Burlington, ON, Greg (Susan) of Thunder Bay, ON and two grandsons: Cameron and Alex. Also surviving are his mother Rebecca, his brother Dave (Betty), and family; and sisters Jean Hall (Don) and family, and Elizabeth Nash (Greg) and family. He was predeceased by his father Robert Mitchell in 2011, as well as his grandparents.
Bob arrived in Winnipeg with his family, from Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1958.
Bob’s 28-year career with TransCanada PipeLines took him across the country from Falcon Lake, MB, and in Ontario to Kenora, Upsala, Ignace, and Thunder Bay. Some long lasting friendships were made as a result of these many transfers. Closer to retirement he had a transfer to Winnipeg as Regional Manager, which was home to most of his relatives. After living in smaller communities, it seemed natural in retirement to enjoy a cottage on the lake in St. Malo, MB. Bob truly loved spending time there and found it to be his refuge.
Bob and Carolyn joined a volunteer group called RVICS (Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service). They roamed the USA to assigned locations in their RV, doing any needed repairs on buildings and property for needy organizations – again making some lasting friendships.
Bob had many varied interests. In addition to his love of fishing, the cottage and RV’ing, Bob was an avid Ham Radio operator. He also loved wood-working and wood-working magazines, along with gospel music.
Their church families along the way were also a vital and meaningful part of their lives.
Thank you to family and dear friends for your loving support and pastoral visits. You are all special.
Thank you also to the Palliative Team at St. Boniface Hospital for your loving care over the past weeks. You truly are a caring team.
