With sadness in our hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bernice Choboter (nee Goletski), at the age of 92, on Monday, Mar. 27, 2017, in Kelowna, BC.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband George Choboter and daughter Valerie Folk.
Bernice is survived by her sons Brian (Donna) and Dennis, son-in-law John Folk (Hetty), grandchildren Cassie (Craig), Cale (Cori) and Darren Folk, and great-grandchild Parker Choboter.
Bernice was born on Jan. 3, 1925 in Gardenton, MB. She had a distinguished career as a school teacher, school office secretary, post mistress as well as assisting her husband operate their farm implement and service station business. Bernice was a loving, caring and talented person whose Catholic faith and love of family were the foundation of her life. She was involved with the Catholic Women’s League and the Manitoba Women’s Institute.
Bernice’s love of music played a very large part in her life. She was the church organist and choir director of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Tolstoi, MB and had a beautiful singing voice. Bernice played various instruments such as piano, organ, guitar and the accordion. She also played the accordion with various polka bands throughout the region.
A funeral mass to celebrate her life was held on Saturday, Apr. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at St Charles Garnier Catholic Church, 3645 Benvoulin Rd, Kelowna, BC, with Father Pat Monette officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kelowna General Hospital and at Mountainview Estates Assisted Living Facility for their loving care of our dear mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kelowna General Hospital, BC Heart and Stroke Fund, or the BC Cancer Agency.
