June 27, 1946 - March 19, 2017

Julia Catherine Plett (nee Unger), age 70, of Landmark, Manitoba, passed away suddenly on Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Palm Springs, California.

Julia is survived by her beloved husband Ray Plett; their daughter Leanne and husband Dave Wiebe and their daughter, Parker; son Jon and wife Jenny McDermott and their daughter, Nina; and son Darren and his partner Naomi Jellicoe. She is also survived by her siblings and their families, sister Rose and husband Stan Penner; sister-in-law Wilma Unger; sister Lillian and husband Edwin Plett; sister Betty and husband Glenn Koop; sister-in-law Agnes Stassen; sister Grace and husband Ken Reimer; and brother Gerald and wife Phyllis Unger. She is also survived by Ray’s siblings and their families, sister Marina and husband Ben Wiebe; sister Viola and husband Winston Penner; sister Gladys and husband Sid Reimer; sister Karen and husband Corny Loeppky; brother Grant and wife Celia Plett; brother Dayton and wife Viola Plett; and brother Rick and wife Monica Plett.

Julia was predeceased by her father Abe Unger, mother Elizabeth Unger, brothers Peter Unger and John Unger, brother-in-law Bill Stassen, niece Jackie Unger and nephew Graham Usher.

Julia and Ray were married May 6, 1972 in Landmark at Prairie Rose EMC. She was working as as a nurse at St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and she was a friend to many, especially those in great need. She was a deep thinker and enjoyed challenging the beliefs of herself and others. She loved her garden and took great pride in producing a beautiful yard through hours of difficult labour. She was an incredible support to the operations of Unger Poultry Farm, a business which her father started.

The funeral service for Julia will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Prairie Rose EMC in Landmark, with interment to follow at Prairie Rose Cemetery and reception at Prairie Rose EMC gymnasium. Viewing will also be held prior.

If friends so desire, donations in lieu of flowers in memory of Julia may be made to the Canadian Food Grains Bank.

Special thanks to the medical staff at Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Springs, staff at Rose Funeral Home in Palm Springs and the staff at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, who made the funeral arrangements. Additional thanks to all those in the community for their support during this difficult time and particularly those who helped prepare for the funeral service.
