March 17, 1927 - March 16, 2017
Sadly, the family announces the passing of Kenneth, at home, one day shy of his 90th birthday.
He will be lovingly remembered by his spouse Judith, former wife Lynne, four children: Don (Janice), Karen Hatch, Graham, and John (Christine); five grandchildren: Charlene Hatch, Devin (Meaghan), Benjamin Hatch, Brenden (Tina), Anita Vandal (Eric); and four great-grandchildren: Brooklynn, Hayden, Madden, and Isobel; and niece Joyce Urbanietz (Ben) and the four Passey nephews. He will be missed by all those he charmed along his way.
He was predeceased by son-in-law Russ Hatch, parents and siblings.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, he will be remembered for his generous heart, willing hands, and fierce protection of the vulnerable, especially in his roles as child protection officer and human rights commissioner. He remembers vividly his time with the liquor commission and as radio announcer for CKY in its inaugural year. He would tackle any task, believing firmly that if someone else could do it so could he, or you.
Ken loved game nights with his family and friends, the English language and the endless wordplay it afforded him, and music. He had a prodigious memory for old lyrics: verse after verse he recited until the very end.
A private memorial service was held on March 18th in the home he built. A further celebration of his life will be held the May long weekend.
