JACOB F. PETERS
October 26, 1944 – March 13, 2017
On Monday, March 13, 2017, Jake Peters passed away peacefully at St. Pierre Hospital at the age of 72.
Jake is survived by his loving wife Nettie of 46 years, three sons: Walter (Rose), Levi (Kathy), Wes, two daughters: Gloria (Randy), Jen (Randy) and 11 grandchildren: Brandon (Emma), Tyler (Alyssa), Sirenna, Nicole, Aaron, Caleb, Kaitlyn, Brianna and Nicholas; two brothers: Dave (Margaret), Hein (Tina) and one sister-in-law Helen and many nieces and nephews.
Jake was predeceased by his parents John and Katherine, two brothers and one sister.
Dad was born in Morris, Manitoba, but moved to Paraguay in 1948 with his parents and siblings. There he met Nettie Schroeder, whom he married on October 8, 1970. They had four children, moved to Canada in 1981, and had one more child.
Dad worked as a tractor mechanic for 27 years at Rempel Tractor Parts, which later became Worthington Ag Parts. There he met some of his lifelong friends. Dad loved fixing old tractors even in his spare time. When he wasn’t working, he could be found doing his favorite things which included BBQ’s with family, or spending time at their cabin out by Roseau River. He had a huge love for polka music. Every Saturday was a BBQ and polka party with the family. Dad loved to joke around with his kids and grandkids.
In January 2016, Dad was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. From the start, dad had a positive attitude and didn’t let it get him down. Having fought the good fight, he peacefully went home to be with his Savior. Dad’s sense of humor and love of family time carried on until the very end. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Pierre Palliative Care Foundation - District Health Centre Foundation, Box 320 St. Pierre, Manitoba, R0A 1V0.
