ESTHER IRENE SABANSKI
(nee Zaporzan)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Esther Irene Sabanski at Assiniboia Union Hospital Long Term Care, Saskatchewan.. At the age of 91, with daughter Rosemary by her side, beloved Mom passed into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, February 23, 2017.
Esther (nee Zaporzan) the first of four children was born to Sam and Mary Zaporzan, July 4, 1925 in Vita, Manitoba. Times were very difficult during her youth, so she had to quit school in Grade 6 to help on the family farm in Overstoneville. Esther met John Sabanski in Tolstoi, Manitoba and married on June 8, 1946. After a short honeymoon in Kitchener, Ontario, they returned to live in East Poplar, Saskatchewan. Their pride and joy, Rosemary, was born on July 25, 1947. Esther was a stay-at-home Mom working very hard around their humble little home. John’s career as a CPR Section Foreman took him to various towns. In 1961, the family moved to Scout Lake where John continued working on the railroad and Esther at home. In 1968, a final move was made to Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.
Esther and John lived a simple life with simple pleasures. They loved company, so the door was always open. Everyone was welcome to come for a visit, a cup of tea or coffee and a bite to eat. They and Rosemary attended the Roman Catholic Church most of their lives. Vacations were trips to Manitoba to visit family.
After John’s passing in April of 1990, Esther continued to live in the family home. Even though it was a huge adjustment being alone, she still managed. She took great pride and had a passion for having the cleanest, tidiest house, yard and garden. A devoted helping friend always called her “Mrs. Clean”. The onset of numerous health issues through the years brought Esther to the Assiniboia Union Hospital Long Term Care in August of 2013, where the staff became her extended family. She then suffered a difficult life with determination and on some days, sheer willpower. Esther’s enjoyment now included weekly rosary prayers, all church masses, especially Catholic, old time music, and games. Her days were brightened by daily phone calls from Rosemary and most especially looked forward to her visits. After a long, progressive and courageous struggle, Esther is now a heavenly angel and “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” where there is no pain or suffering.
Esther was predeceased by her loving husband John, parents Sam and Mary Zaporzan, brothers Bill, Melton and Donald Zaporzan, sister-in-law Eileen Zaporzan, Uncle and Aunt Nick and Edna Boychuk, and cousin Gladys Wyatt. She leaves to mourn her daughter Rosemary Tymkiw and husband Walter, sisters-in law Jean Zaporzan, Erna Friesen (Leonard), Zaporzan nephews, nieces and families, Doug (Shirley), Glen (Gail), Wayne, Kim, (Roger), Tim, Rick (Louise), Gail (Bill), Maury, and cousin Marlene Drewniak.
Funeral service for Esther will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 in St. George’s Roman Catholic Church, Assiniboia. Father Dennis Remot was celebrant. Interment took place in Mount Hope Cemetery, Assiniboia. Masses may be said or donations in memory of Esther may be made to St. George’s R.C. Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements were entrusted to Ross Funeral Service, Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.rossfuneralservice.com.
