SHEILA REID
June 12, 1938 - February 4, 2017
It is with love that we remember Sheila June Reid who passed away peacefully on February 4th, surrounded by her family. Sheila was a writer, a teacher, and an idealist who saw the potential for goodness in people and in the world.
Sheila graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1961 and started what would become a life-long career as a freelance writer. She returned to university while raising two young daughters, graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor of Education, and taught in Winnipeg School Division for over twenty years.
Sheila married Wilmer in 1987. It was a joining of minds, hearts, and families. They travelled extensively, collaborated on many plays, and thoroughly enjoyed their grandchildren.
Left with loving memories are her husband Wilmer Penner; daughters Laurie Bleeks and Karen Watt; sons-in-law Todd and Mike; Wilmer’s children Jon (Blane), Christine (Mark), Rick (Jen), Tom (Sharon); treasured grandchildren, Dustin, Kate, Meghan, Emma, Cody, George, Sam, Van, Bridget; sister Margaret (Denny) May; nieces Tracy and Joanna; cousins Joan (Gerry) Hoogeveen, Jeanne (Kem) Luther, Lynda Wray, Marj Booker; and many dear friends.
Our deepest thanks to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for your exceptional care. Your kindness and compassion allowed Sheila to live her last days with dignity and grace. Special thanks to Dr Kaethler of Steinbach.
A celebration of Sheila’s life will be held on February 18 at 11 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sheila may be made to Riverview Health Centre Unit AB2.
