(nee DOERKSEN)
January 23, 1952 – January 31, 2017
With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our loving mother (Baba) on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at St. Boniface Hospital.
Baba leaves to mourn, her mother Katherine, sister Susan (Bob), husband Maurice, and children: Arlene (Chad), Colleen (Darrell), and Jason (Laura). She will also be deeply missed by her beautiful grandchildren: Jessica (Scott), Amber, Alyssa (Albert), Zachary, Brayden, Kristen, and Owen as well as her precious great-grandson Stephen, nieces and nephews, and godmother Olga.
Doreen was predeceased by her father Abe, brother Harold, father-in-law Steve, mother-in-law Mary, and brother-in-law Johnny.
Mom grew up in the small town of Menisino. She loved school and often talked about how she used to run through the garden and pick flowers.
She was married to Maurice Krasniuk on July 22, 1972 and together they raised three children.
Sundown became her home. Her family, yard, and flowers brought her great joy. Mom was always busy and could be found gardening, painting, baking, cooking, cross-stitching, and even took an interest in carpentry.
A typical Christmas in our home consisted of countless hours spent making homemade perogies, cabbage rolls, meatballs, apple pies, and so much more. Spending time working together with her children making these delicious meals was her way of preparing us for the future and passing on her legacy. She embraced the Ukrainian culture whole heartedly.
As her children grew older, Mom moved to Steinbach and spent many years working countless hours. If you looked at her hands, you knew how hard she worked.
Mom fought hard and long to the very end. We take some comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with Jesus.
Funeral service will take place Sunday, February 5, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with viewing at 1:00 p.m. . Interment will take place at Ridgeland Cemetery, Sundown, MB.
Donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
