KRIST CHRISTIUK
October 6, 1927 – January 30, 2017

After a courageous battle with cancer, Krist Christiuk passed away on Monday, January 30, 2017, at the age of 89 years.

Pa will be lovingly remembered by two sons: Orest (Pauline), Raymond (Karen) of Dufrost and two daughters: Patricia (Peter) Gawronsky of Roseau River and Elizabeth (Mike) Kozun of Lockport as well as his 10 grandchildren: Kirsta (Bryan), Lisa (Coleton), Matthew (Brigitte), Stephanie, Nathan, Vanessa, Michael, Ryan, Austin and Troy. He is also survived by his brother Roman (Anne) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Krist was predeceased by: his wife Effie, father Elia, mother Feuronia, brothers: Sergi, Alex, sisters: Tillie and Fay, and three children in infancy.

Krist was born October 6, 1927, at the village of Dubova, near the city of Kovel in Ukraine. Along with his family he immigrated to Canada landing on August 6, 1938, eventually settling in the Bowsman area before relocating to Dufrost in 1948. He married Effie Chubey on April 23, 1960. They farmed together in Dufrost with his family on a mixed farm. In 1999, they retired off the farm and moved into town.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Krist may be made to St. Mary’s Congregation, Dufrost or to a charity of one’s choice.

Prayers will take place on Friday, February 3, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. with viewing prior at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Assumption of the Virgin Mary Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church, Dufrost, MB. Interment at the Dufrost Cemetery.
