June 9, 1932 – December 23, 2016
Dora Giesbrecht (nee Sawatzky) passed away on Friday, December 23, 2016, at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home at the age of 84 years.
She was predeceased by her husband Cornelius (Cornie) in June of 1985 and is survived by her children: Marion (Warner) Heinrichs and sons Wells and Wade; Phyllis (Ron) Loewen and sons Daniel and Benjy, and his daughter Luna; Harold (Natalie) Giesbrecht; Wayne (Rachel) Giesbrecht; Doris (Dennis) Wiebe and children Matthew, Jaden, Melissa (Chris) Wilson, and their daughters Ava and Cheyenne. She is also survived by one brother Abe (Lena) Sawatzky, and sisters Sarah Sawatzky and Wilma Sawatzky, as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Dora was born on June 9, 1932 to Abram and Anna Sawatzky who resided in the St. Joseph area, east of Altona. She enjoyed living on the farm and helping her parents with various chores. She shared the house with eight sisters and one brother. While attending the Altona EMMC Church, mom caught the attention of a specific young man named Cornelius Giesbrecht, and they were married on June 9, 1963.
Our father passed away suddenly on June 6, 1985 and it was truly a hard time for mom, but she was always more concerned about how we were doing. She persevered through 31 years of life without Dad, always grateful to God for being by her side.
We want to say thanks to the staff at Bethesda Personal Care Home, who were such a huge help to our mom, and also to her many friends and all family who took the time to go and visit her.
God be with you, till we meet again!
A come and go visitation will take place on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52, Steinbach, MB.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Christian Fellowship Church, 417 Hanover St., Steinbach, MB, with the interment at Altona Cemetery, Altona, MB. Viewing will be prior to the service.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Dora may be made to One Hope Canada (formerly Canadian Sunday School Mission), Winnipeg, MB.
