MARY (HARDER) REIMER
May 19, 1919 – December 21, 2016

Mary (Harder) Reimer of Steinbach, age 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB.

She was born in the village of Plum Coulee on May 19, 1919, to Jacob and Maria Friesen. She was the eldest daughter in a family of eight children. On September 10, 1939, Mary married Peter Harder of Lowe Farm. They lived in the Lowe Farm area for the first several years of their marriage after which they moved to Steinbach. Here, Mary and Peter raised a family of 9 children, five girls and four boys Once the children were of school age, Mary started to work outside the home, first of all at Bergman Meats, then the Hanover School Board. After Peter's death in 1991 Mary moved to Linden Place, where she was living at the time of her passing.

Several years after the death of Peter, Mary married Ben Reimer. He provided wonderful companionship to her during the five years of their marriage.

Activities that gave Mary pleasure while residing at Linden Place were, puzzling, playing games, and visiting with the people living in the building. Qualities she will be remembered for include, her caring nature, a pragmatic and positive outlook on life, her steady character, a commitment to her family, fair-mindedness and a deep faith in God.

She leaves to mourn brothers, Henry (Tina), Cornie (Agatha) and sisters Kay and Helene.

She is survived by daughters Olga (Peter), Elma (Ross), Debra (Bryan), Laura (Ben), and sons David (Sharon), Milton (Colleen) as well as daughter-in-law Corrie (Frank) and son-in-law Jim (Evelyn). Dearly loved grandchildren and their families who also survive her are: Mark (Melody), Joshua (Pam), Heidi (Dave), Jillian, Tyler (Jessi), Joel (Ira), Kyle (Cassidy), Kayla, Laura, Andrew (Caroline), Alyssa, Reynell (Brett), Jonathan, Sheila (Dave), Brad, Leighton (Sara), Cynthia (David), Jennifer (Dwayne), Karen (Wayne), and Stephanie.

Reimer family members surviving Mary are Donna (Arnie), Cathy, Audrey (Earl), Kent (Charlene). Dearly loved grandchildren and their families who also survive her are, Alicia, Desiree, Cori, Julia (Chris), Rachel, Curt (Lindsey), Lisa (Doug), Travis (Roxanne), Brittany.

Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Harder, her second husband, Ben Reimer, daughter Justina, who died in infancy, sons Harry and Frank Harder, daughter Evelyn Milliken, daughter-in-law Ruth and stepson Bruce Reimer.

We would like to thank Dr. Mark Duerksen, the staff at the Bethesda Hospital, and all the wonderful homecare workers our mom had over the years for the excellent care they gave her.

The memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
