HENRY HIEBERT
December 1, 1931 – November 17, 2016

Henry was born December 1, 1931 to John and Katherine (Wiebe) Hiebert, the 5th of 11 children at Randolph, Manitoba.

Henry spent his early years on the family farm. His brother Jack changed Henry’s birth certificate to allow Henry to start school a year early. A keen student, Henry was given a pass to the next grade a few days after starting school. A small farm and a large family created financial challenges, and Henry moved out at age 12 to work for a neighbor. While the farmer that Henry worked for attempted to teach him to play cards and smoke, it was the experience of hard work and the dedication to supporting his family that Henry took away from his experience on the farm. At age 16, Henry gave his life to the Lord at a revival campaign in Kleefeld. In his late teens, he returned to work with his father in a trucking business. However, his father encouraged Henry in his desire to attend Bible School, and the trucks were sold. This proved to be a life changing event as he developed a passion for the Bible, teaching and preaching and music. It was also at Steinbach Bible College that he met his beloved wife Loraine.

Henry and Loraine moved between various communities in Manitoba, Indiana, Minnesota, Alberta and PEI as Henry furthered his education and pursued his career as an English and music teacher and later in administration. Along the way they also had three children, Beth, Merle and Margruite. Henry was also asked to contribute his gift of preaching in all of the communities that he and Loraine lived in, and he was often called on to be a lay pastor. Together they shared a love for the church and for hospitality. Henry eventually left the world of education and turned his lay pastoring into a full time commitment to pastoring. This began in a Baptist church in Edmonton and carried on to an Alliance church in Daysland, a Bergthaler church in Lowe Farm, a Nazarene church in Winnipeg, an Alliance church in Pinawa and a Baptist church in Sprague.

Henry passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the St. Boniface Hospital and is survived by his children: Beth and Loren Koehler (Katrina, Victoria, Priscilla), Merle and Yvonne Hiebert (Andre, Madeleine) and Margruite and Paul Krahn (Genevieve, Sara, Rebekah). He is also survived by three brothers: Jack (Martha), Ed (Betty) and Bert (Marion) and his sister-in-law Mable Hiebert and brother-in-law Ben Reimer.

Henry was predeceased by his wife Loraine, his brothers: John, Abe, Pete, George and his sisters: Helen, Mary and Tina.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main St, Steinbach, MB, with the interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB. Viewing prior to the service.
