ERLENE JOYCE WOHLGEMUTH
January 18, 1938 – November 12, 2016

Our dear mother and grandmother Erlene Joyce Holdeman Wohlgemuth slipped away on the evening of Saturday, November 12, 2016.

She was the oldest child born to Archie & Velma Holdeman on January 18, 1938 at Moundridge, KS. Her happy childhood years were spent near Hesston, KS, growing up with three sisters and two brothers. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on November 2, 1950 by Minister Harry Wenger, remaining true and faithful to her vows.

She took nurses training and spent a number of years caring for others. On June 5, 1966, she was joined in marriage to Dennis Wohlgemuth of Ste. Anne, MB. This union was blessed with two daughters and one son. In August of 2006, they sold the family farm and moved to their new house in Steinbach, MB. Mom loved her new yard and spent many happy hours working in it. We remember her as a dedicated and loving mother taking good care of us even though life required her to work away from home while we were growing up. If we ever needed any advice we always asked mom. She had a quiet personality but her interest in other people won her many friends. Dad’s death in December of 2009 left her very lonely. She lived by the Motto “In acceptance there is peace”. Even though her life wasn’t easy she never complained. She courageously faced the decline of her health including the last two year battle with lung cancer. Due to her declining health she moved to the Maplewood Manor in September of 2016. It is her sincere desire that we all meet in Heaven someday.

With sad hearts we say good-bye but we are thankful her suffering is over. She leaves behind two daughters, Kathy (Leonard) Weaver, Joleen (John) Sauder, all of Fleetwood, PA. One son, Myron of Steinbach, MB, and six grandchildren. Her sisters and brothers, Janice (Eugene) Unruh, Copeland, KS, Carol Dueck, Ste. Anne, MB, Donella (Julian) Toews, Twin River, MB, Archie (Karen) Holdeman, Farwel, TX, Gary (Lorrie) Holdeman, Hesston, KS, her in-laws: Ruth (Dennis) Froese, Winkler, MB, Ruth (Leonard) Unruh, Grafton, ND, Cheryl (Milton) Warkentin, Cartwright, MB, Norman (Lorna) Wohlgemuth, Alexandria, ON, Ken (Carolyn) Wohlgemuth, Swan River, MB, Ray (Florence) Wohlgemuth, Cartwright, MB.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her parents-in-law and three brothers-in-law.

We want to thank the staff at Maplewood Manor for lovingly caring for Mom the last two months of her life.

The viewing will take place on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Greenland Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Greenland, MB, with interment at the church cemetery.
