EDWOOD OSWALD
September 30, 1944 – November 7, 2016

Suddenly but peacefully, our “Rock”- husband, father and grandfather passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital due to cardiac arrest during a very risky surgery on Monday, November 7, 2016.

Edwood was born on September 30, 1944 during harvest. Last Thursday, he was still pushing to get the harvest done. Friday our lives were forever changed when his blood was disappearing. An attempt was made to stop the bleeding via surgery. The surgery was not successful.

Edwood was born to Harry and Mathilda Oswald in Steinbach, MB. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother Wesley and sister-in-law Corinne Oswald. Edwood is survived by his loving wife Gwen, three sons and their families, Jason (Dawn), Mark (Laura), Brent (Kirsty), along with seven beautiful grandchildren: Brandi, Jordie, Cole, Hailey, Rianna, Taylor and Brenden. Also surviving him is Eldon and Linda Fuchs (brother and sister-in-law), one sister and one brother Ken.

Edwood was raised on the family farm in the Oswald School District. We still own that precious farm along with our son Brent. With the help of the good Lord we had some of the best crops humanly possible. He was not afraid to try new things. We had the first freestall barn in the area, the first computerized milking and feeding system in the province, the first Harvestare silo in the area and were the first corn growers in the area. He loved and promoted technology on the farm but never used it unless Brent set it up for him. He will be truly missed. He was one of a kind!

Edwood met his wife Gwen on December 26, 1964. We were married on May 11, 1968. We were great partners for 48 ½ years. He looked after the fields and I looked after the cows. “My dear Edwood – you are just as handsome to me today as you were on the day we met. Love you forever “- Gwen

On November 23, 2015, he had an aneurism surgery. He always said that something wasn’t quite right after that. I guess as usual he was right.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Bethesda Hospital and especially the medical staff at St Boniface Hospital who tried so hard to save him.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St., Steinbach, MB, with the interment at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Flowers gratefully declined, donations in memory of Edwood may be made to St. Boniface Research Foundation, Winnipeg, MB.
