MURRAY STANLEY FEHLER
March 3, 1955 – October 4, 2016

Murray Fehler, age 61, of Steinbach, MB, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2016 after a brief illness at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Heather Fehler, as well as their daughter Tessa (Jeremy) Plett and children Jillian and Brody, and their son Lee. He will also be dearly missed by his father Henry and sisters: Frances (Bruce) Wright, Marlene (Karl) Plezia, Sandi (Don) Janzen and their families, brothers-in-law: Lyle (Carol), Trevor, Duayne (Bev) Friesen and their families, as well as so many who knew him as a great co-worker, friend, and mentor. Murray was predeceased by his mother Mary in 1998.

Murray was a man of great integrity and truly had a servant’s heart. Helping others by improving their lives in practical ways, as well as injecting spice into their lives with his mischievous humour was what brought him his greatest satisfaction.

He got special delight from caring for and improving his 99-year-old dad’s day to day life in any way he could. His dad was his best friend and they were often seen enjoying breakfast together or having a burger. No father has ever had a more loving and dedicated son. Their relationship was very special.

He was so very proud to be the father of Tessa and Lee and when Jeremy was added to our family he always considered him as his own son. Their accomplishments, joys and sorrows were always on his heart. He would frequently send them a text just to let them know he loved them and was so proud of them.

He was Apple Tree Papa to his beautiful granddaughter Jillian. Together they enjoyed the apples from his tree in his lovely yard. His grandson Brody would giggle with glee when Papa would take him on his motorcycle around the block. Brody would come home still bubbling with laughter from the exhilarating bumping he enjoyed when Papa would go off-road on his motorcycle.

His uncanny ‘MacGyver’ capabilities to be able to problem solve and fix anything and everything made him a valuable asset in the workplace as well as to his family and friends. We know there are countless stories out there of how he has helped so many of you. He simply could not walk past someone in need no matter how tired he might be.

Murray had an unpretentious and humble nature that drew people to him. So many people considered him a true friend from the many places he worked at over the years including as custodian at Elmdale School and as a power engineer at Bethesda Hospital, Bridgepark Manor and the Ste. Anne Hospital. You always knew Murray had your best interests at heart.

On September 9, 2016 on Murray & Heather’s 39th anniversary they were given the diagnosis of Murray’s untreatable cancer. It hit him with a ruthless vengeance and 26 days later he left this world far too quick and soon. There were so many more beautiful roads and music festivals that Heather and him were hoping to discover, so many more apples for Jillian and him to pick, so many more giggly bumpy rides for him and Brody to enjoy.

We are left shaking our heads that this dear man was taken from us so quickly. We are left holding him so tightly in our hearts knowing we had the privilege and honour of being loved and cared for by such a unique and special person. His legacy will endure in the lives of all who were impacted by this gentle soul.

The funeral service was held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, Steinbach, MB, with the interment at a later date.

Donations in memory of Murray may be made to Soup's On, Steinbach, MB, or Today's House, Steinbach, MB.
