ELAINE LESLIE AULIS
Elaine Leslie Aulis, 1952-2016 Elaine was someone who believed in community. She volunteered at the College Park Recreation Association for twelve years and served on the Craft Council for four. She was also an avid potter and an artist and was featured as Artist of the Month at the Mendel Art Gallery and authored an article for the Craft Factor magazine.
She and her husband Jim were married for forty years. He loved her dearly and supported her in all of her creative endeavours, which included building her a pottery studio that she operated for eleven years. For the last ten years she and Jim loved traveling to Ucluelet, their heaven on earth. Elaine was blessed with three children: Matthew, Jordan, and Devon and a grandson, Skyler. She grew up in a loving home that fostered her interests where she studied music at a young age and went on to continue those studies at the University of Manitoba.
In 2002, Elaine was discovered by her biological sister Verna. Elaine was surprised and elated to find out she was the oldest of six siblings and had fourteen years blessed with two loving families. Verna was relieved not to be the oldest in the family anymore.
All of Elaine’s children loved the outdoors and had great adventures with the Scouts. Elaine spent many summers camping with her family, even though she preferred running water and flush toilets. She shared her passion for music with her oldest son Matthew and loved seeing him on stage through his high school years. Music and creativity ran through the family and her daughter Devon enjoyed playing the trumpet and Jordan pursued creative writing and published poetry. Elaine loved art and crafting and enjoyed comparing markers and art supplies with her daughter in law, Stacey.
Elaine cherished special memories of her grandson Skyler, the light of her life, who grew up in the family home surrounded by his Nana, Papa, Dad, and his aunts and uncles.
Elaine passed away on September 6th, 2016, and was predeceased by her adoptive father Gilbert Aulis of Winnipeg, MB, and her biological father and mother Ed and Anne Funk of Steinbach, MB. She is survived by her adoptive mother Paula Aulis of Kewlona, BC, and her siblings Jayne (Paul) Woolman of Westwold, BC; Verna (Aime) Verrier, Bev (Eric) Funk, Heather Mae Funk, Todd Funk, all of Steinbach, MB; and Kevan Funk of Edmonton, AB. She is also survived by husband Jim McGeary and children Matthew (Stacey) McGeary, Jordan McGeary, Devon (Jesse) Webb, and grandson Skyler McGeary, all of Saskatoon, SK.
Her children remember her as the best mother they could have wished for and will love her forever. Elaine has asked for a private service to be held later this week.
