MARY DUECK
November 1, 1922 - August 27, 2016

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” II Timothy 4:7 & 8

Our mother, Mary Dueck, at the age of 93, went home to receive her crown of righteousness, on Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 at Resthaven Nursing Home in Steinbach, Manitoba. She was born on November 1, 1922 to George and Mary Kornelson (nee Dueck) near Morris, Manitoba.

In her early years Mom was always eager to help on her parents’ farm. She often talked about how she enjoyed waking up early to milk the cows before she walked to school. She enjoyed singing good old folk songs with her sisters, often accompanying them with guitar.

After receiving Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior, Mom was baptized upon the confession of her faith. Mom was married to our father George Dueck on December 27, 1942 and they farmed in the Rosenhoff area until 1965. Mom bravely supported dad’s decision to move to the Arborg area where they continued farming.

In 1969, due to complications following a surgery, mom saw a glimpse of angels’ feet but she asked God to allow her to stay on earth a little longer to take care of her young family. God granted this request. Other than this health crisis, our mother was blessed with remarkable health and often expressed her gratitude for this.

Mom had a love for sewing and fabrics and an entrepreneurial spirit. She combined these two gifts and in 1970 started Country Fabrics in the basement of the farm home. After remarkable success and outgrowing the country location, she moved her fabric shop into the town of Arborg. She really enjoyed the business aspect of this as well as, the many friends she made during this time.

Mom and dad retired to Steinbach in 1979. Mom remained very active in the community and church.

After suffering several strokes over the last few months, mom passed away peacefully with the family singing by her side.

She will be lovingly remembered by: 3 sons: Irvin and Rosalind Dueck Brooks, AB, Bernie Dueck Winnipeg, MB, Eldon and Judy Dueck Carman, MB; 4 daughters: Pearl and Wilmer Reimer Strathmore, AB, Corinne and Henry Nickel Steinbach, MB, Frieda Kornelson Calgary, AB,Doris and David Andres Landmark, MB, Daughter-in-law Helen and Peter Friesen Winnipeg, MB, 30 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, George, and two adult sons Glen and John.

She is also survived by her brother John Kornelson (Steinbach) and sister, Lottie Siemens (Rosenort), two brothers-in-law Willie Dueck (Arborg) and Menno Dueck (Mexico).

As a family we wish to express very special thanks to the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home for their tender, loving care they provided to our mother.

The viewing will take place on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service for Mary will take place on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church, Steinbach, MB, with a viewing prior to the service. The interment will follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
