AUDREY VIVIAN BLANCHE GRIER (NEE JACK)
1930 – 2016
It is with full and grateful hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Audrey Vivian Blanche Grier (nee Jack).
Called to Heaven, to tend to the Lord’s Garden, on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at the age of 85, Audrey passed away peacefully into the Lord’s care with family by her side.
Audrey was born on Oct. 1, 1930 to her parents Edward and Alice (Buchan) Jack at their home near Ridgeville. Our mother grew up in the Ridgeville area, a younger sibling (by 13 and 11 years) to her sisters Evelyn (Schellenberg) and Ruth (Metcalf). Audrey loved to ride horseback and play ball. She entered into a 9-year teaching career at the age of 20 years old following a career path previously set by her mother and her oldest sister Ev.
Our mother married Morris David Grier of Woodmore on June 29, 1957 and together they concentrated their time and energy into raising a family and building up a productive Brown Swiss Dairy on the “Guy Post” homestead in Woodmore.
Audrey was a true member of the Woodmore community. Always busy, she was a dedicated representative of the Women’s Institute for 45 years, a faithful servant to the Greenridge United Church and a longstanding member within the Brown Swiss Association. She has maintained many close relationships with dairy “folk” across the country.
Our mother was also an avid supporter of the Woodmore Community 4-H Club, Ag in the Classroom and she continued to play ball from the pitcher’s mound until she was 50 years old with the Woodmore Night Owls ball team.
Our mother valued “family” above all. Her children and grandchildren brought her a great source of pride. She also cared deeply for extended family members and was always there to show support with a guiding hand and a wise and caring soul. Family from the East to West Coast would touch base with Mum to hear her comforting voice as she lifted them up and encouraged them in their venture.
Audrey is survived by her daughters Lesley (Greg), Candace (Louis), and her son Kent (Sandra); eight grandchildren, David, James and Aaron Berg, Alice, Robert and Theresa Guimond, Mandy and Matthew Grier. Mum also leaves to mourn her faithful friend of 23 years, Mr Pete Peters and his son Keith, daughter Beverly (Jeff) and family as well as her precious “Big Sis” Evelyn Schellenberg of Penticton, BC, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Morris Grier, her parents Edward and Alice (Buchan) Jack, one sister Ruth Metcalf and an infant grandchild Katrina Berg.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. at Greenridge United Church, Greenridge, MB, with the interment to follow at the church cemetery, Greenridge, MB.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Audrey may be made to the Greenridge United Church Memorial Fund or The Bethesda Foundation, Steinbach, MB.
Audrey’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of the Bethesda Health Care doctors and nurses that were involved in our mother’s care. In addition, a huge thank you to our family, friends and neighbors who visited, called, sent cards, flowers and food; these expressions of your love and support are appreciated.
