WILMER DUECK
September 28, 1941 - June 30, 2016
My beloved husband, Wilmer Dueck, was born to John and Anna Penner Dueck on September 28, 1941 in Steinbach, Manitoba. Seeing he was growing weary, God sent his angels to come for Dad while he was sleeping and the birds were singing their morning song of praise on Thursday, June 30, 2016.
Bereft of his mother while still a little two year old boy, his big sisters and brothers took loving care of him. Then God provided them with a new, loving mother, Katherine (Penner). His parents were often busy ministering in far flung places so his sisters continued to mother him. He enjoyed his nephews and nieces so much.
His childhood was spent on the family farm where he gleaned a love for the land and farming. He especially liked raising little chicks. He started to deliver eggs for his Dad in Winnipeg at the age of 16.
He found salvation and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 20, 1953, by Minister Clifford Penner.
On October 30, 1966, Carol Holdeman became his precious wife. They made their home in the Greenland Community and shared the joys and sorrows of life for nearly 50 years. He accepted the call to the deaconry and was ordained on April 19, 1982.
He inherited his father's love for world travel which, together with his responsibilities took them all over North America and on long flights across the oceans. He enjoyed working on the MUA committee as well as the years spent with Christian Service International, touching many lives and making life-long friends.
When they weren't traveling he was tilling the soil and gathering eggs, providing well for his family. He found joy and fulfillment in working with his fellow labourers and loved serving people. He had a tender heart and in one of his last conversations he shared a concern whether he had done his part for lost souls. He said, “I wish they could all be saved.”
Our home was blessed with four sons and three daughters. Dad’s steadfast leadership created a loving home for us, his family, and a haven under which our special daughter, Lois, blossomed. He dearly loved all his grandchildren.
It was a big disappointment to find out in March that his life was going to fade away due to a brain tumor. We were so thankful for the grace God gave him to accept this sudden summons. He quietly waited for the boatman.
We are left with beautiful memories and await the joyful reunion day, his loving wife, Carol; children: Les & Rhaea, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Lois, of the home; Arden & Monica, Beausejour, Manitoba; Marcus & Jackie, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Errol & Linda, Elsie, Nebraska; Joyce & Samuel Friesen, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Kayla & Galen Reimer, Debolt, Alberta; and 29 grandchildren.
His brothers and sisters: Leonard & Irma, Whitemouth, Manitoba; Herbert Reimer; Leona & Alvin Penner; Harold & Lydia, Cartwright, Manitoba; Emily, Steinbach, Manitoba; Lavina & Denver Wiebe, Bredenbury, Saskatchewan; Jonas Giesbrecht, Hillsboro, Kansas; his in-laws: Erlene Wohlgemuth, Steinbach, Manitoba; Eugene & Janice Unruh, Montezuma, Kansas; Julian & Donella Toews, Elma, Manitoba; Archie & Karen Holdeman, Farwell, Texas; Gary & Lorrie Holdeman, Hesston, Kansas. Mom’s cousin Joetta Wohlgemuth and her family played a special part in our life.
Those gone on before, his parents, parents-in-law, two sisters, one brother and one brother-in-law.
We, as a family, will be forever grateful for the steady stream of support we felt during this difficult journey and the excellent care he got during his short stay at the Maplewood Manor. We were all shown the warmest hospitality. Thank-you!
