February 18, 1925 - May 23, 2016
Winston Henry Wohlgemuth was born to John P and Martha Wohlgemuth on February 18, 1925, in the RM of Ste. Anne, MB. He peacefully passed away at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, on Monday, May 23, 2016. He reached the age of ninety one years.
Dad spent his childhood on the family farm at Clear Springs, north of Steinbach, MB. He was a part of a busy household, being the second oldest of eleven children. For many years, his Grandma lived with them, making her a part of his early memories.
He yielded his heart to God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, on December 12, 1943. The Church was very dear to him, and he prayed often for the leaders and those in responsible positions.
As a young man he went to work in the bush camps in Western Ontario. He enjoyed that work and often spoke of the time there.
Dad married Emily Isaac on July 17, 1955, at Kleefeld, MB. They began their wedded life on a farm at Twin Creek northwest of Steinbach. Dad was a farmer; providing well for his family. Four daughters were born to them. Dad was very patient with us as we helped him on the farm. Dad and Mom sold the farm and moved to their retirement home in Steinbach in 1989. He enjoyed working in the garden, his workshop, and helping wherever he could. Dad moved to Maplewood Manor in January, 2014, where he was spent his last years.
Dad was a devoted husband and father. He truly loved our mother and us children and wanted the best for us. He encouraged us to be thankful, and see the good in others. His simple trust and confidence in God was a wonderful example to us. In times of distress, he knew where to turn, and we often saw him reading his Bible for comfort and direction in his life. During the last weeks, he made known his longing to go Home.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Emily; his daughters: Phyllis, Lorene, Helen, and Rachel all of Steinbach, MB. His siblings: Mildred Penner, Steinbach, MB, Olive and Jim Toews, Iroquois, SD, Katherine and Johnnie Warkentin, Dalhart, Texas, Norman and Darleen Wohlgemuth, Bredenbury, SK, Frances Goossen, Grandview, MB. Brother-in-law Stanley Barkman, Steinbach, MB, sister-in-law Libby Wohlgemuth, Oak Lake, MB. The Isaac family: Eleanor Isaac, Steinbach, MB, Otto and Edna Isaac, Carrot River, SK, Hilda and Cliff Giesbrecht, Enderby, BC, John and Florence Isaac, Steinbach, MB.
The viewing will take place on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Steinbach Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Steinbach, MB, with the interment to follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB. Viewing also prior to the service.
