SARAH PETERS (nee NICKEL)
August 2, 1949 - May 4, 2016
Surrounded by the love and prayer support of her family and friends, Sarah Peters passed away peacefully from cancer on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 43 years, Edward, sons: Darryl and Colin, daughters: Rachel and Andrea and their families, mother Mary, five brothers, two sisters and their families. She is also survived by three brothers and four sisters-in-law and their families plus many good friends.
She is predeceased by her father George, two sisters, her parents-in-law, one brother-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Mom was born on a very hot day, August 2, 1949 at her grandparent’s place in Roseau River, MB. She accepted Jesus Christ as her saviour when she was 13 and was baptised on the confession of her faith on June 2, 1968.
Mom and Dad were married on October 21, 1972 at Stuartburn Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, Stuartburn, MB. They moved from Steinbach to Stuartburn in 1974 and farmed there for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2013 and moving to Blumenort, MB.
Mom enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, and baking and worked hard to care for her family and their dairy farm. After selling the dairy farm, Mom used her gift of caring to work with Southeast Health as a home care worker. She loved spending time with her family and excelled at being a hostess. She was very supportive and extremely proud of her family and their accomplishments.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to her entire Cancer Care team and the caring staff at Bethesda Hospital.
A viewing was held Saturday, May 7, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service was held on Sunday, May 8, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, New Bothwell, MB, with a viewing prior to the service. The burial followed at Stuartburn Sommerfeld Mennonite Cemetery, Stuartburn, MB.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Sarah may be made to Southern Health/Sante Sud (in memo line: Bethesda Cancer Care).
