EDGAR FRIESEN
May 26, 1940 - April 28, 2016

Edgar Penner Friesen was born May 26, 1940 to Peter W. and Margaret (Penner) Friesen at Greenland, Manitoba. After a year long battle with cancer, he peacefully left us to be with his Lord on Thursday, April 28, 2016 with his family at his bedside. He reached the age of 75 years.

Dad grew up on the farm. He received his formal education at South Greenland School. Upon true repentance and confession of his faith he was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, December 16, 1951. Dad's life was not without struggles, yet he had a clear vision and appreciation of the working of the church. His recent reconsecration was evident in all aspects of his life. He faced his illness with courage and acceptance and often expressed his thankfulness for what the Lord had done for him. We are comforted in knowing Dad is free from pain and earthly trials. We look forward to meeting him in heaven.

On March 22, 1964 he was married to Clarice Friesen by Minister Earvey Ensz at Almena, Wisconsin. They shared the joys and sorrows of life for 52 years and lived in the Greenland area all their married life. Their home was blessed with four sons and one daughter.

Dad enjoyed farming until their retirement in 2005. He had numerous interests. In his retirement years, he spent many hours in the shop creating and innovating his many ideas. He also enjoyed working in his greenhouse garden together with Mom.

Us children have many fond memories of the trips we took as a family. Dad and Mom enjoyed travelling and visiting their children in retirement years. From childhood on, Dad often admonished us to be true and faithful. Dad really enjoyed his children and grandchildren especially in the last years.

Those left to cherish fond memories are his loving wife Clarice, his children: Harlan and Barb, Ste. Anne, Manitoba; Weldon and Bev, Silver Valley, Alberta; Allen and Ev, Bow Island, Alberta; Glenn and Reanne, Silver Valley, Alberta; Karen and Randy Gable, Clarksdale, Mississippi; 20 grandchildren; one special sister Dorothy Friesen, Steinbach, Manitoba and a special cousin Marlene and Alvin Toews and their family. One brother-in-law, Marvin and Nadine Friesen, four sisters-in-law: Rose and Jason Jantzen; Carol Friesen; Ruby and Harold Koehn; and Wilma and Lawrence Friesen.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, two brothers in infancy, three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

We as a family would like to especially thank Dr. Krahn, Dr. Reimer, the palliative care team and the many home care workers who enabled us to take care of Dad at home until his passing. We would also like to thank all those who have stood by us as a family during Dad's illness and have given of themselves by visits, prayers and meals.

The viewing took place on Sunday, May 1, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional at 7:00 p.m.

The funeral service was held on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenland Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Ste. Anne, MB. Viewing prior to the service.
