At the age of 89, our mom went to her Eternal Home. She passed away at her residence at Woodhaven Manor.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter H. Doerksen, in 1992; her oldest son, Edward, in 1996; two sons-in-law, Musa and Lawrence; four brothers and one sister. She is survived by four brothers and one sister.
Mom and Dad were married on Aug. 1, 1946 and had six children: Edward (Brenda) and their family, Edward, Daryl and Karen; Peter (Rose) and their family, Bonnie and Raymond; Marilyn Shamuyarira; Henry (Naomi) and their family, Shauna, Matthew and Brian; Bev (Mel Dueck) and their family, Melanie, Caleb and Jesse; Elaine (Reg Peters) and their family, Megan and Kaitlin.
She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
Mom was born in Lampman, SK to John and Annie Kehler. They moved back to Steinbach when she was seven years old. She attended an evangelistic meeting when she was 10 years old, where she gave her life to the Lord. She was baptized in 1946 at the age of 20.
After Mom and Dad were married they lived in Steinbach for seven years. They then purchased the farm near Randolph, MB where they lived for the next 32 years.
Mom loved her local church, Silberfeld CMC, and served wholeheartedly with the ladies group. She taught junior youth and 4-H for many years. Mom welcomed young people to her home, providing them with an abundance of food and laughter.
Dad and Mom moved to Steinbach in 1986. They enjoyed an active retirement, serving at the MCC Thrift Shop, travelling and serving with the Steinbach CMC serving group.
After Dad passed away, Mom moved to Woodhaven Apartments, where she lived until her passing. Mom loved the Lord and she loved people. She wrote to many missionaries, always remembering their birthdays and anniversaries, sent them encouraging words and prayed for them faithfully.
Mom was a faithful prayer warrior. Her prayer list included her family, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Christian organizations, missionaries, shut-ins, and so many others as she heard of their needs.
Mom had a way of making people feel welcome in her home. She loved to cook and bake for others and it brought her so much joy to see others enjoying her food! Many will remember her love gifts of nuts and bolts, rhubarb pie, cream cookies, and marshmallow squares.
