June 3, 1929 - February 15, 2016
Elizabeth Kornelsen was born June 3, 1929 in Mexico to Jacob and Helene Hein. As a baby, she and her parents moved to Canada where she lived till her teenage years, before moving back to Mexico. There she married Jake Kornelsen in 1952. A few years later, they moved to Belize for a few years before moving back to Mexico. In 1971 they moved to Canada. Here they lived in different places, including Regina, Saskatchewan, for a few years. In their marriage, six children were born, two during the time they lived in Belize.
Mom’s passion in earlier days were flowers, gardening and making quilts.
She leaves behind three children: Abe (Marcy), Sarah and Frank (Elizabeth); nine grandchildren: Rachel, Sarah, Isaac, Lucy, Tony, Joey, Charles, Cheryl and Andy; six great-grandchildren: Samantha, Ethan, Quillan, Shoreh, Janaya and Isabelle; two brothers: Jacob and John in Belize.
Mom was predeceased by her husband Jake, son Richard, two children in infancy, two granddaughters: Lilly and Felina, her parents, five sisters and one brother.
As a family, we would like to thank all the home care workers that served her faithfully for ten years, with a special mention to Neta Hildebrand, who went above and beyond the call of duty.
We would like to thank the staff and doctors at the Ste. Anne Hospital, where she lived for three months, for not only taking special care of her, but showing her much love and compassion. Special thanks to all that so faithfully visited her in the hospital. She didn’t want to go to a nursing home and God granted her wish.
She passed away Monday, February 15, 2016.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with the viewing prior to the service. The interment will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to the Southern Health/Sante Sud – designate Ste. Anne Hospital in memo line.
