SARA (WIELER) HARDER
July 30, 1915 – February 1, 2016
On February 1, 2016, our dear mother, Sara (Wieler) Harder, age 100, passed away peacefully to her Heavenly Home where she has longed to be for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob Harder, daughter Tina in infancy, son-in-law Cornelius Rempel and one great grandchild. Left to cherish her memory is her family: Mary (Jacob) Bestvater, Eva Rempel, Jacob (Helen), Henry (Bertha), Edward (Mary), and Martha Harder, 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Mother was born to Bernhard and Agatha Wieler, and was the eighth of nine children (all predeceased). She attended the Randolph English Government School.
Mother was baptized upon the confession of her faith at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church in Randolph.
Mom and Dad were married on October 5, 1939 at her parents’ home. They lived on the farm for 34 years and raised six children. She tended to a large garden and farm chores. Mom and Dad retired to Steinbach for another 34 years enjoying gardening, visiting family and knitting mittens. In July 2008, they moved to Cedarwood Apartments where more help was available to them.
Mom was blessed with strength and good health her entire life, experiencing her first surgery at age 89. Dad passed away on September 2, 2009, after nearly 70 years of marriage. After this, Mom was lonesome and struggled to enjoy life.
Mom moved to Bethesda Place, in November 2012, where she received personal care for the last four years. The family is thankful for the excellent care granted to Mother.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 10:30 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with a viewing prior to the service. The burial will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sara may be made to Southern Health-Santé Sud, (In memo line: Bethesda Place Personal Care Home), Box 470, La Broquerie, MB R0A 0W0.
