She was predeceased by husband Peter in 2012, son Melvin in 2006 and great-grandaughter Addison in 2009.
Anna was born in Neuhoffnung Village, Manitoba on August 12th, 1922, to Helena and David Heinrichs. During her early years, the family moved to the Grunthal area where her father taught school and later on had a general store. Mom and Dad met at a local youth group and married in 1949 in Grunthal. They started their married life in Hochstadt, where they lived for three years before moving to the Bristol district. In 1959 they moved back to the Hochstadt area where they operated a dairy farm for many years. They retired to Mitchell in 1998. Mom moved to Woodhaven in 2008, living there until her recent move to Cedarwood.
Mom’s first job was driving truck for her father’s grocery store. After they married, Mom and Dad started their farming career in Hochstadt. Mom was heavily involved in all aspects of the farming operations. This was in addition to raising six children in challenging times. Mom’s many other projects included: gardening, canning, sewing, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, quilting and needlework. Mom was always busy. She did the best she could with what she had.
During the 1970’s, Mom and Dad were finally able to take time away from the farm to do some traveling. Their first trips were to Mountain Lake, Minnesota and Niagara Falls. Later on their travels took them to Newfoundland, New York and Alaska.
Mom valued education highly, although she was never given the opportunity to continue her education past grade 8. She was very proud that all her children and grandchildren graduated from high school and that many obtained post-secondary degrees and diplomas.
Belief in God was the foundation of mom’s life; attending church, reading her Bible and praying. Mom left us the legacy of her faith.
The family would like to thank the Bethesda Hospital doctors and staff and the home care staff involved in caring for mom over the last few years. There are so many of you, and we are not able to name everyone, but please be assured that we appreciate all that you have done for mom.
The funeral service will be held Friday, January 15, 2016 at 2:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba, with a viewing prior to the service. The interment will follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, Manitoba.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Anna Koop may be made to One Hope Canada (formerly Canadian Sunday School Mission), Unit 6 – 875 Gateway Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2K 3L1.
