Lawrence was predeceased by his nephew Daniel Penner (March 28, 2014).
Lawrence grew up on a turkey/grain farm near Blumenort and became a successful turkey farmer himself. As a teenager, he learned horsemanship in a 4-H club and earned several trophies. Horses were his passion. He overcame many obstacles to become the fun loving, selfless, and generous person he is today.
On September 20, 1975, Lawrence married Marge Reimer. They started off in a tiny house in Blumenort, then moved across the creek from the home farmstead. Here they raised their three children, Leon, Matthew and Melissa. In 1991, the family moved to a turkey farm on the Greenland Road where they still live. Lawrence also tried his hand at a few other ventures: raising ostriches, getting a class 1 driver's license and driving for Arnold Brothers, moving trailers with Marge for FEMA, and working at Camp Arnes as a wrangler after earning his certificate.
As a couple, Lawrence and Marge enjoyed travelling and went on many vacations with family and friends. They also enjoyed landscaping their yard and he was a willing partner in Marge’s many creative projects. Lawrence was a devoted husband, father and Poppa to his family.
Lawrence's faith in his Lord and Saviour was paramount and he spoke boldly to everyone about it. Lawrence attended and served, most recently as trustee, at the Blumenort EMC church, which he enjoyed tremendously.
Lawrence will be greatly missed by everyone
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Blumenort EMC Church, Blumenort, MB. The burial took place in the church cemetery.
